no prob obet... trail ride na ulit tayo (puray gift-giving pa yung last hehehe)...

pero when i used this kind of chain link sa ss specific chain (sram ss chain), medyo in-adjust ko yung pin para sumentro using chain tool... though meron kasama na link yung chain, di sya kasing dali ikabit/kalasin

sinubukan ko rin, di pala kasya missing link for 9speed sa ss specific chain (ofcourse Very Happy )

I've been using a KMC SS chain with no problems for the past year or so. Prior to that, I was happy with a Shimano 8 speed (IG-51 i think).

Just do regular checks on your chain and drivetrain for wear, and replace chains when necessary.

Once you've broken a chain, you may re-use it. But you'd might as well buy a new one. Haven't broken my KMC yet though (knock on wood)

hi SS folks. Im planning to take off my suspension fork from my SS rig and go rigid-- for road and light trails use lang. naiisip ko kumuha ng carbon fork para medyo forgiving yung ride. your tots? natatakot ako dun sa mga horror stories na bigla na lang bumibigay mga carbon parts.

is this your primary bike? what fork are you using now? if it's a decent one i don't see the need to ditch it for a rigid fork. no rigid fork, even a carbon one, will match the comfort of a suspension fork on the trail. and if you're afraid of the horror stories, you should stay away from carbon altogether. aluminum is cheap and light, steel is heavier but more forgiving.

Re: Single Speed

thanks for your thoughts. have assembled a pulsus which i ride whenever im with a weekend group. i used the fork of my ss ht on the pulsus so now my ss rig is lacking a fork. was thinking of going rigid instead, kasi mas mura hehehe. i use the ss on solo rides. i have a road bike pero di na kaya ng matanda kong katawan yung posture on extended rides, kaya naiisip kong gawin primarily roadie yung ss rig ko-- thus the desire for weight weenieism. am even toying with the idea of slapping my 700c's onto the ss rig once i already have a rigid fork.

actually, the reason for this post is i was about to buy a switchblade fork, but saw a carbon merida fork in the same store for a lower price. anyway, i think youre right, aluminum na lang.

vw, if you're just using it for the road or the occassional rough road, the carbon fork should be ok, but it's probably not worth the cost though. mind you i'm not sure how much exactly the carbon switchblade costs but i seem to recall that it's at least the same as a decent fork like the epicon.

since you already have a road bike i would use that instead for road rides though. you can always use a shorter stem with a short reach, shallow drop bar like the fsa compact for a more upright position. and you can convert that to singlespeed as well Smile

hmm good point. so a ss hardtail with suspension fork for trails, and a SS roadie for roads. verrry interesting. you think those conversion kits will also work for my road wheelset? they should right, pareho lang naman sukat nun? pwede rin tensioner-less yung roadie di ba? exciting hehehehe time to search the diff fora for the ss roadies. thanks very much for adding to my confusion Smile

yup the conversion kits will work. i had one myself a couple of years ago running 42x16, but i had to disassemble it later on for a geared road bike when i started racing. i converted my mountain bike after. here's what it looked like at the time:

if you're using an old steel frame like that, with the semi-horizontal drop outs you can probably do without a tensioner in the rear as well.
