honga, bakit may mga taong hindi pinupulikat?

i heard kaloi never had a pulikat before.

seryoso boss, meron ngang hindi... so far... isa ako sa mga yun.... been into different sports, kahit 12 noon e nakikipaglaban ng tennis, kahit contact sports, pero di pa talaga ko pinupulikat...

last saturday, from my town to UP Mud spring (lagpas lang ng konti sa stra. rosa), pinadyak ko pati pauwi shempre... pero kahit sign parang wala... nung hinapo ako, umupo ako, pero mukhang wala din...

seryoso.. abnormal ba to??

baka naman you usually ride alone...try riding with a very competitive bunch..o kaya sali ka sa mtb marathon race..after that at wala parin...abnormal ka nga...abnormal ba tawag talaga duon? What a Face

I don't know why...pero baka yung stretching ko (especially yung Achilles tendon stretch) could be a factor. I will almost always forget the "other" stretches (hams, quad, shoulders, etc), pero lagi kong ginagawa yung Achilles stretch...kahit on the bike (10-12 seconds per leg during freewheels / easy downhills).

So far, so good! Smile

Sprain -- ibang usapan na yan!
I had my bountiful share of that gut-wrenching experience nung nagbabasketbol pa 'ko.

Sad

tama yan bossing. kadalasan di natin naiisip ang achilles tendon natin. actually i got my achilles injured last year. sa bbol game namin kala ko na sprain lang ako so medyo masakit lang. the next day when i was in the office bigla nalang parang napapadyak yung right leg ko pataas kala ko kung ano, seconds lang after di ko na maigalaw ng maayos! anak ng ang sakit talaga!!! kala ko sparin pa rin so di pina check pa 2 days na nandoon parin kaya pina check ko na sa doctor. MRI results to a tear on my achilles. may option daw to oprate para mas mabilis gumaling, sabi ko naman sa doctor ay doc di ho ako nagmamadali magpagaling. takot ako eh Sad

actually biking was my second activity i did parang theraphy na ng paa ko. salamat sa MTBiking!!! Smile

I had that experience during an epic ride training. Hassle eh!

What a Face meron tendons dun connecting the muscles to the bones.

hope you guys will allow this...
for sure the loss of electrolytes and other minerals would lead to cramps, in my experience-hydrating with water alone will not be sufficient...
most of household nowadays use filtered water (which is so clean even minerals that are needed by our body is removed when it goes through the process of filtration) not the mineral kind...
although we are hydrating we do not replace the lost electrolytes and other minerals like potassium...adding some Gatorade and banana's may do the trick (or your preffered energy drink)...
some simple stretch might help as well...
...just my dos centimos

Re: Anyone into Cramping?

Post by wcoastbo on Thu Jun 18, 2009 3:46 am

Each of us has a slightly different body chemistry and unfortunately some of us cramp during long hard rides. I will start to cramp after riding 4 continuous hours, if I don't take electrolyte supplements. I agree with nell7806, water alone does very little to reduce muscle cramps and will dilute the little electrolytes left in your system, in fact I usually start to cramp if I guzzle an entire bottle of plain water during an endurance ride. The past 4 years I participated in a road event that is 156 miles with 13,500 feet of climbing. There was only 1 year where I did not cramp.

This is what I did in that one year. Several days before the ride I consumed large amounts of electrolyte drinks. During the ride I took 4 types of supplements. Endurolyte capsules, Elete concentrates, powdered Gatorade in my bottles and Lava Salt capsules. In addition, I took 2-3 times the recommended dose every hour during the climbs (took me almost 16 hours to finish with meal breaks). Warning: Elete will act as a laxitive if taken in high doses. All of these supplements contain sodium, potasium, magnesium and trace amounts of manganese.

Other things to try to help reduce cramps during long rides: stretch every hour or two, make sure your setup is in "KOPS" position (having my seat too far back seems to over tax my quads and makes me cramp sooner), sip small amounts of water/liquid, don't gulp large amounts, train more before epic rides.

brusko wrote:Bo, wala bang side effect yan pag tira mo ng supplements and electrolytes sa liver mo?

I asked the same question to the makers of Endurolytes, Hammer Nutrition. I was taking 3-4+ times the recommended dose. They said no negative effects, but my feeling is too much of anything is usually bad. I only do such doses once a year during the Climb to Kaiser ride. During 4-6 hour endurance rides I take much less, between 1-2 times recommended. During the Kaiser ride I don't feel any negative effects, my stomach doesn't hurt, my urine is not yellow during or after the ride, a good sign that my kidneys are not working too hard to remove excess supplements and I'm not dehydrated. In fact I rarely pee during or after an endurance ride, not until I start gulping bottles of water and recovery drinks. The only supplement I reacted to was Elete, I put concentrate into 20 ounces of water that was meant for 1 gallon... twice in 2 hours, it acted as a laxative and I lightened my weight just before the highest climb to 9200'. Now I take less Elete.

I'm not medically trained, but I'm in tune with my body and when it's functioning properly and efficiently. I definitely feel better taking massive amounts of electrolyte supplements during this particular ride, than taking small amounts. Could there be some strain to my liver? Maybe, but not as much as when I used to do a lot of binge drinking and vomit my guts out when I was in my 20's. I believe my body is excreting large amounts of sodium. When my sweat drys I have massive salt stains on my arms, face, gloves, helmet stap, jersey (after one particular Kaiser after my jersey was dry it was stiff and cripy as if I'd starched it), shorts, toptube & downtube, you can even see that the stem bolts on my bike were rusting (I had to change them to Ti). I tried searching for effects of too much sodium on the liver, but couldn't find anything. I figure my body is not retaining the excessive soduim I consume and all I'm doing is keeping the electrolyte balance normal. I've asked a lot of people about the massive electrolytes I take once a year and nobody has yet been able to give me a definite answer.

Others may be different, but in my case the cramping of my major muscles (quads, hamstrings, calves and even my forearms) is due to a depletion of electrolytes. There may be another cause to cramping with others. Experiment a little and see what works for you.

I'm fortunate enough not to suffer from cramping. Although one time during a century ride, more than 5 years ago, around the 35th mile--I did. I don't remember doing or not doing anything out of the ordinary food and fluid intake wise, just that I tried changing my pedaling style after another rider derided mine. That was the first and only time I've ever experienced cramping and it wasn't fun. But in my case, food and fluid or supplement intake had nothing to do with my cramping that day, rather the change in riding style--pedal stroke, position on the bike, etc.--caused it.
